BC Government Plans Harmful Changes to Grizzly Bear Management
A return to trophy hunting of grizzly bears would be considered
A new public process for grizzly bears – The BC government is asking British Columbians to read a 66-page report entitled the Grizzly Bear Stewardship Framework and fill in an online survey about it. The deadline for input is October 6 at 4:00 pm.This Stewardship Framework is information about grizzly bears to be used by local and regional wildlife advisory committees that the government is currently forming. These local and regional committees are called “Together for Wildlife” and they will make recommendations to the provincial government.
The Draft Grizzly Bear Stewardship Framework
Up to the present time, BC has had professional biologists to make recommendations on grizzly bear management. However, the proposed local and regional wildlife advisory committees would be dominated by interests that exploit the bears or their habitat: hunting organizations, resource industries and political interests such as local and regional government. The members of these committees will wield influence over wildlife management far superior to the voice of the general public. This makes a return of grizzly bear trophy hunting very likely in many areas. If this concerns you, please, write a protest letter to government today. The deadline is October 6 at 4:00 pm.
You can download the report and fill in the online survey at: https://engage.gov.bc.ca/govtogetherbc/engagement/grizzly-bear-stewardship-framework/
The deadline for submissions is currently October 6 at 4:00 pm.
Some of the questions on the survey are meaningless.
VWS urges you to write a letter to the government right away to:
1) oppose local and regional advisory committees for grizzly bears and all wildlife;
2) oppose reopening the grizzly bear trophy hunt.
